GNR Project

This project aimed to create a 'loose fit' building to be inserted into the existing brick shell of the GNR building in Nottingham. Creating a loose fit design involved keeping the structure simple in order to allow for change of function. I looked at how an Activity Centre and a Community centre could both work in the design without any structural changes occurring. I places all services around a service core allowing the rest of the space to remain open.

Tree inspired columns held up a sloping roof and suspended a series of hanging acoustic panels to absorb noises from the large open space and I considered how the existing structure could create a sheltered walled garden for users.

To reduce the carbon footprint of the design, I used materials with low embodied energy and inserted multi-use pods that could be moved around the space to allow freedom and reduce the amount of spaces that needed heating.
