Hybrid Housing

The brief for this project was to create a masterplan to sit on an urban site in Nottingham and then focus in on one area of the site where there was to be Hybrid Housing. This involved some element of communal living, in this case, shared kitchen and living areas as well as public spaces throughout.

The main concept for this project was FLOW and this was applied to the design through the shape of the masterplan. The outer facing facades were straight and of similar height to its surroundings to blend with the context. However, the facades facing into the site have organic curves and small walls curving into the path that create blockages, moments of pause and then movement.

The design of the Masterplan created connections between the inner city, green spaces and Sneinton market place via a sloping bridge that rose from ground floor level to one storey height with a hotel opening out to the walkway at first storey level.
